American International Motorcycle Expo

VolCo360 visited the American International Motorcycle Expo in the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.  The organizer never responded to our application for media credentials - our reporter had to pay to get in, so all we did is take a few shots of some very cool bikes.

Pictured above is a replica of Kenny Roberts 750cc Yamaha dirt track bike.  That's a four cylinder 2-stroke 750.  Kenny rode it for one race, and after he won it, refused to ride it again.  He did ride it a second time for an exhibition.

UNIT showed a prototype carbon fibre Freestyle MotoCross bike.  What got my attention is the weight.  Most bikes in this class weigh about 240 lbs.  This bike weighs 165 lbs.  That's 75 lbs lighter!

Carbon rims?  Yep!

What a frame!  The engine is a KTM 250cc 2-stroke.

The exhaust is routed into the swingarm, which functions as a silencer.  The output is that raised section on tops side, close to the rear wheel axle.

Bodybuilding returns to Daytona Beach.  The NPC Daytona Beach Classic was held at Seabreeze High School on September 21, 2013.  Artist Perego and VolCo360 photographer Ken Elliott got a behind the scenes look at the competition.

Thanks to Michael Matassa, Tony Curtis, all the competitors and sponsors for a fantastic show.

The Ladies get ready to go on stage.

Daytona National Reptile Breeders' Expo 2013

The Daytona National Reptile Breeders' Expo 2013 was held August 16 to 18, 2013 in the Daytona Beach Ocean Center.  VolCo360 reporter Constance Payne and photographer Ken Elliott stopped in for a visit.  Here’s a few photos of the animals in the show.

After the break

By Ken Elliott

The first wave of Spring Break is over.  Apparently, the colleges are teaching the kids to use these funny yellow things to stash their trash.  Who said a college education was useless?

On behalf of all the locals.... Thanks, kids!

JT Smalley - Artist and Bot Commander

By Ken Elliott

Mother's Day is approaching.  Wouldn't Mom love a little robot?

This cool little guy is the work of artist JT Smalley.  JT build his 'bots' out of found objects.  Look close and you'll see forks, spoons, metal band-aid boxes, watches and all sorts of metal items.  JT sells these at local art shows and (soon) at his web site.   http://www.jtsmalley.com/

Villopoto

This year’s Daytona Supercross was won by Ryan Villopoto.  Ryan is an extremely tough guy – that helps a lot at Daytona, known as the toughest track on the circuit.  And he’s very fast.  Ryan won the past two Supercross championships, and seems to be on course for a third.

Rolex 24 at Daytona

Long ago, sport car racers considered a 24-hour endurance race to be the ultimate test of their cars.  Your car might be fast, but if it was fragile you would not make it to the finish.  In the USA, the Daytona 24 hour has historically been the top race – the one everyone wants to win.  Today that race is part of the Grand AM series, and is called the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona.  It starts January 26 at the Daytona International Speedway.

I attended for the first time last year.  I did not have a good view of the track, so I concentrated on behind-the-scenes shots.  These are the guys are critical to the event, and the show would not happen if it weren't for their dedication.  The tire guys are working their butts off trying to keep up with all the tire changes - it never stops.  The fuel guys work hard and have the pleasure of wearing warm fireproof gear.

If anyone from the track or Grand-Am reads this, I’d love to have a pass to attend this year’s event.  Yeah - that's a big hint.  Click the 'About VolCo360' link on the right for contact info.
